Son of the Gamblin' Man: Identity on the Plains
The 2010 Sandoz Symposium focused on Mari’s love of and advocacy for art ranging from American Indian Art to the works of Cozad’s Robert Henri.
Michigan State University assistant professor Kimberlie Lee discussed Mari’s art advocacy and her on-going fight for Native American Rights. Black Hills State University assistant professor Holly Boomer leaned on Mari’s book “Son of the Gamblin” Man” to discuss gaming as the modern trickster.
Jane Rohman, a board member of the Robert Henri Museum in Cozad talked about Henri the teachers and painter. Museum Director Jan Patterson explored Robert Henri “Legend, Man and Myth.” Chadron State College student Rob Foresman explained “The Other Son of the Gamblin’ Man” and retired Inver Hills Community College (Minnesota) Richard Voorhees led a discussion on understanding Robert Henri.
Chadron State College Legal Studies Professor George Watson looked at Frontier Justice with readings from students in Great Plains Literature classes. Museum of Nebraska Art ARTreach coordinator Kristin Gebhardt did a gallery talk on Henri’s art.
